Paul is a voice of reason, asks the hard questions, seeks the honest answers, and works with you to figure out and implement a plan to help your business change and grow. If he can’t help he’ll tell you and try to find someone who can.
Paul was born in the Yorkshire town of Baildon, lived a ‘normal active kids’ life growing up in Kirby Muxloe, a village in Leicestershire, before completing an honours degree in Engineering and Business Studies in Portsmouth. Paul has always maintained a keen passion for his own learning and development, most recently studying the practice of the Design Sprint and gaining a nano-degree in Innovation.
Paul’s experience in commercial roles in a diverse range of manufacturing, engineering and technical businesses sets him apart from many business advisors with single sector experience. In his early twenties, he worked in project management on solar power installations for telecommunications in Botswana and Kenya at the time when the industry was in its infancy. Seeing poverty for the first time and trying to maintain his own safety and security travelling and working alone in these countries helped him build resilience and it started his journey of helping other people.
Paul does a heap of stuff for his local community through Rotary. He is a long time Rotarian, past president of the Rotary Hutt Valley Club, and past Rotary Assistant District Governor and is recognised with a Paul Harris Fellow. He is the Chair of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for 2020 – 2022.
His career continued with looking after European sales for a large capital equipment company based outside London, then setting up a new division for a scientific instrument manufacturer in the food industry in the UK.
Paul has now been in New Zealand for many years with partner Anne, and their two sons who are busy finding their own way in life overseas and in NZ.
Paul held senior commercial roles with BOC Gases working on process improvement in many of New Zealand’s biggest manufacturing industries before starting his own business in 2004 in consulting, training and facilitation. For many years he worked with CreativeHQ helping Start-Up’s with sales strategy, particularly figuring out how to articulate and capture the value of their solution. He also wrote and delivered a variety of training courses for the Institute of Management. He led a significant project to develop the first professional sales qualifications in NZ and was the editor of NZ Sales Manager magazine for many years until it merged with NZ Entrepreneur.
More recently he has been inspiring NZ’s young entrepreneurs with Young Enterprise Trust and has led much of their work for school students in Financial Literacy.
